Service Projects Spring 2017
University Community

On Earth day, the sorority drove to Johns Hopkins to volunteer at their community garden. We helped plant vegetables, pick kale and spinach, pick weeds, and water plants. This garden sends the produce to schools for breakfast and lunches in the summer as well as shelters.
Community-at-large

The Chesapeake Bay is not only a very important aspect of Maryland, but also important for our environment. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation for certain money amounts donated will use the funds towards restoration and you get to pick where it goes to! We raised money by having people pay $1 to pick a duck and win a prize. The money we raised went to building a reef ball, which will provide a surface for oysters to grow.
Members of the sorority

This year we started "Smart Sister" where weekly our sisters work on assignments together and bond. We also started sister dates where every week sisters are randomly chosen to have a date and get to know each other more.
Nations of the World
Every year a few select students embark on a trip to Peru with the SSNDs to complete a service trip. This year we created a Peru fundraiser to raise monetary funds to send on this summers trip for supplies for the children. We also created a book drive to send back children's books for their small library.

President's Project

Our President's project this year was childhood obesity, which tied into our university community project. While working at the Johns Hopkins Garden we planted new veggies and were able to pick kale and strawberries to use for salads. The garden sends the fruits and vegetables to local recs and schools for children to have fresh produce throughout the school year.
Permanent Project

OPhiA's Permanent project is mental health! This semester we chose to make fun uplifting sticky notes to place all over campus. Every step you took in one of our buildings you could find notes from each of our sisters. The day after everyone posted all over social media pictures of our notes and expressed their gratitude for the encouragement before finals started.
